Twitter users celebrate Obama on Trump’s birthday – variety

Instead of celebrating President Trump’s birthday on Sunday, many Twitter users used the day to pay tribute to President Obama with the hashtag “All Birthday Matters.”

On Sunday morning, several phrases started trending on Twitter, in addition to “Obama’s Day, June 14,” “Obama’s Praise Day,” “Obama’s Day USA,” and “All Birthday Matters.”

Some celebrities and politicians joined the trend, including George Teckie, Ken Zheng, Billy Baldwin and others.

“I wish Donald a happy birthday on his special day, but above all, #AllBirthMatter,” Teckie wrote. Later, he added, “Oh, how are you missing, Mr. President. Friends, what do you miss most about Barack Obama? #Obamade June 14,” with a video of the former president.

The hashtag “All Birthday Matter” is a reference to the widely criticized phrase “All Lives Matter” created in response to the Black Lives Matter movement. “All Lives Matter” is commonly used to dismiss support for black rights and is strongly condemned by many.

Some people used the hashtag to honor the lives of black people who died after the incident with police, such as George Floyd, Brecona Taylor, Trevon Martin, Tamir Rice and many more.
