Primary Wave Music has acquired the rights to two of the Doors’ founding members, guitarist Robbie Krieger and late keyboardist Ray Manzarek, because they are related to the band. The acquisition includes their interests in the group’s catalog of music publications, recordings, trademarks, and merchandise rights and revenues, among other things. The deal does not include interests in late singer Jim Morrison or drummer John Densmore.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though a source said diversity The numbers were “big”.
Although the original band was only active since its formation in 1965 and Morrison’s death in 1971, it produced a number of hits including “Light My Fire”, “Break On Through (To The Other Side)”, “Hello, I Love You”. ,” “Strange People,” “Riders on the Storm,” “LA Woman” and others. The doors have continued in various configurations over the years.
Primary Wave’s marketing, digital strategy, branding, licensing, and sync teams will work closely with Doors Manager Jeff Zampol (Zampol Artist Management, Inc.) to help drive opportunities across the catalog.
John Branca, David Byrnes and Kelly Valon Cicotti negotiated the deal on behalf of the sellers.
“After 58 years, and the most magical of times, I have decided to sell my share of The Doors to Primary Wave,” says Robbie. “This will enable me to help many of the charities I have been involved with and some new ones as well. I know Primary Wave cares about helping music, art and legacy go to greater levels. Jeff Zampol, our longtime Doors manager, will still carry on our legacy in partnership with Primary Wave, so I’m relaxed and happy about the future of The Doors.”

He continued, “Our family has been patiently finding the right partners for its lifelong efforts to protect and promote Ray’s art and now we are happy to come to an agreement with Initial Wave. Under the continued guidance of our manager, Jeff Zampol, Primary Wave will be the right partner in this effort to create the next generation of new Door fans.”
