UTA Publishing, a division of Global Entertainment, Talent and Sports Agency UTA, has hired Arielle Friedman as an agent.

Friedman joins the company from Simon & Schuster imprint Atria Books, where he served as vice director of publicity and marketing. He will report to Bird Level and Christy Fletcher, co-heads of UTA Publishing.

“Our team at UTA Publishing has long appreciated Ariel’s unique style of author care, working to instill confidence in her clients and guiding them through the publishing process in a way that expands the landscape and audience for their work,” Level said in a statement. “These are ideal qualities for an agent, and we look forward to the passion, expertise and energy he will bring to the team.”

In his new role, Friedman will work to build UTA’s commercial fiction program, leveraging his brand-building talents and experience working with authors as UTA Publishing grows its roster of novelists.

Friedman has launched more than 50 New York Times best sellers, including eight No. 1 titles, and has placed numerous titles as book club picks in prominent outlets such as “Good Morning America,” “Today,” Marie Claire, the New York Public Library and WNYC. and Chest of the Month, among others. A graduate of Emory University, Friedman began her career at HarperCollins and lives in New York with her daughter and husband.

News of Friedman’s hiring comes just one week after it was announced that UTA had acquired the highly regarded full-service publishing firm, Fletcher & Company. Notable clients of the New York-based fiction and non-fiction publishing house include Maggie Shipstead, Daniel Mason, Ken Kalfuss, Courtney Joffness, Gretchen Rubin, John Carrey, Sonya Purnell, Melissa Urban and Eric Reese.

In June 2022, UTA also acquired UK-based literary and talent agency The Curtis Brown Group, which also has a respected publishing division.
