ViaPlay, NENT Group’s flagship Scandinavian streaming service, is set to launch in five new markets: the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The company began expanding its international footprint last year through rollouts between the United States and other countries in Poland.
The launch of the streamer in the UK is scheduled for the second half of 2022, followed by four other markets by 2023. Earlier, Viplay was launched in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Iceland. By 2023, it will be available in 16 markets.
As with other markets, Viplay’s offer will include premium Nordic dramas and international series, films and documentaries. The content will be a mix of Viaplay Originals and earned titles.
NENT Group aims to increase its subscriber base to about 10.5 million by 2025. It plans to increase its Nintendo Wii Play subscriber base to about one million and its international subscriber base to about .5.5 million over the next four years. .
Earlier this month, the NENT Group reorganized and rebranded its studio operations as Viaplay Studios, merging the company’s Brain Academy and Swedish production banners, including Excellent Drama. Well-known credits to these costumes include “Midnight Sun” (pictured), “The 100-year-old man who climbed out the window and disappeared,” “Thicker than water”, “The perfect patient” and “The highest rage.” Upcoming Originals’ Viplay Studio slate includes Las Holstrom’s “Hilma” and Adi Hasak’s “The Box”.
