London-based production, finance and sales company Film Constellation and global curated streaming service MBI have partnered with Werner Harzog’s “Family Romance, LLC” in the United States on July 3, featuring exclusive roles and interviews with Harzog.

In other international regions, the company is collaborating with local drama distributors, including Modern Films, a US drama distributor, Artplex in Brazil, PVR in India, and I Wonder in Italy, who will participate in preview events for their local release.

Herzog, who not only directed but also served as writer and photographer, will launch the virtual premiere and end with an exclusive 15-minute Q&A.

The special preview will be hosted on Mubi and will be available for free 24-hour streaming in more than 150 countries, including the United States and Canada.

“Family Romance, LLC” is the latest feature of Herzog (“Aguere, The Wounds of God”; “The Cave of Forgotten Dreams”). Achieving its premiere at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, the film tells the story of a Tokyo-based company that provides a suitable stand-in for missing family members, friends or fans – available to rent for any event.

With a fictional form of this real-life organization, Herzog follows founder Yuichi Ishii as he helps his clients realize their dreams. But when 12-year-old Mahiro hires Ishii to disguise her missing ex-husband, her mother fears the line between acting and reality will be blurred.

According to a statement, the film blends the story of the fictional story with the documentary-style visuals for “an interesting meditation on truth and artwork in an age of loneliness.”

Fabian Westerhoff of Film Constellation says: “I’ve long admired Moby’s curatorial approach. It’s exciting to draw their global footprint to serve the film’s unique territory releases. It’s an example of how streamers and movies can work together.”

The movie will be officially and exclusively released on July 4 in the United States, Canada, Germany, Latham (Exclusive Brazil), Turkey, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

Sundance and SXSW Midnight horror hit “Relic” on the slate of the film Constellation, produced by Nathalie Erica James, Burnie Encounters titled “Funny Face” by Boutiata’s nominated Saloon Pictures. Directed by “Farewell Amor”.
