Willem Dafoe joins Peter Sarsgaard in Olmo Schnabel’s directorial debut

Filmmaker Olmo Schnabel has assembled a cast of heavyweights for his directorial debut – a romantic thriller about two young men and another who explore New York’s underbelly.

“Pet Shop Boys” will mark the first time behind the camera for Schnabel, the son of Academy Award-nominated director Julian Schnabel. Already wrapped, the project is helmed by newcomers Dario Jazebek Bernal (“The House of the Flowers”) and Jake Irvine (“Giants Being Lonely”).

The film follows sentimental black sheep Alejandro (Bernal) and college-age pet store employee Jack (IRV) who become embroiled in a whirlwind relationship that sends them down a rabbit hole of bad.

The men will have pedigree costars in four-time Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe and the distinguished Peter Sarsgaard. The director previously produced the 2019 drama “Giants Being Lonely” starring Irv. “Pet Shop Boys” was co-written by Irv, Olmo Schnabel and Galen Kor. “I fell in love with Olmore’s project. We see in this project a familiar portrait of today’s youth in New York City.
