Playwrights Sandra Delgado, Ruth Tang and Brittany Allen wrote pieces inspired by the film. Centered on the idea of women coming together to decide what is best for their community. The evening will also include a conversation with Pauley and the playwright, led by Tony Award nominee and Pulitzer Prize finalist Heidi Schreck. Joe Chao is part of the program, performing a monologue by Brittany Allen. Two-time Tony nominee Eva Noblezada will perform Billie Eilish’s “My Future.”
“There is something very communal about our film ‘Woman Talking’. It asks a lot of questions from the audience and encourages discussion. As a director, it was wonderful to work with the cast through a lengthy rehearsal process, and initially in a place that made us all feel a bit like working on stage,” Pauly said of the upcoming event. “To be able to celebrate this film with a one-night stage production and It’s exciting to be able to give voice to Sandra Delgado, Ruth Tang and Brittany Allen to create pieces based on the film’s themes. More than anything, these pieces look to a hopeful and essential future.”
The event, which was conceived and produced by Kate Navin for Audible Theater and Seth Fradkoff for Orion Pictures, will be directed by Kimberly Sr.
“Together with the team behind this powerful film, Audible is honored to promote emerging playwrights — empowering the next generation of writers to see their work brought to life by acclaimed performers. Our theater initiative enables audiences to gather together for live performances and enjoy plays through an immersive listening experience,” said Naveen, head of Audible Theatres, in a statement. “The complex themes of ‘Woman Talking’ demand that we thoughtfully engage and then rethink our understanding, so we jump at the opportunity to bring this work to the Minetta Lane Theater and to hearing audiences around the world.”
“Woman Talking” was released in select theaters on December 23 and is set for wide release on January 20. The film world premieres Sept. 2 at the Telluride Film Festival.
