Write an essay for Aladdin author Alan Men for Spellbound – Miscellaneous

Skydance has identified one of the biggest names in family entertainment to compose animated music and score for upcoming features. Alan Menken, best known for creating classic songs such as “Under the Sea” and “Be Our Guest”, will bring his musical talent “Spellbound”. Presumably, the re-titled film centers on a young girl who has to break a spell that has divided her kingdom into two.

Menken’s list of credits includes “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” “Nantre Dam’s Hankback,” “Enchanted,” “Pocahontas,” and “Jatla” … or, moreover, each of Disney’s animated films. He cooked music for two live-action favorites, “Horror’s Little Shop” and “News” for good measure.

Menken’s hire is welcome news for Skydance Animation, which has been the subject of controversy since 1999 when John Lester led the department alongside Holly Edwards. Leicester has been one of the leading figures in animation for decades, guiding Pixar and Disney animation. However, he was fired from the studio in 2018 following allegations of sexual harassment, and the decision to hire him after Skydance was inspired. Amy Thompson, for example, dropped out of the voice cast of the upcoming Skydance animation film “Luck” and wrote in an extreme letter, “If a man has been touching women inappropriately for decades, why would a woman want to work for him?”

Eight-time Oscar winner Menken will join lyricist and frequent collaborator Glenn Slater (“Jatla”) and music producer Chris Montan (“The Little Mermaid,” “Frozen”). The animated feature will be directed by Vicky Jenson (“Shrek”) and written by Lauren Heinek and Elizabeth Martin (“Mulan”) and Linda Wolverton (“Beauty and the Beast”).

“I am thrilled to be with so many talented collaborators and look forward to working with Vicky Jensen, Lauren Heinek and Elizabeth Martin,” Menken said in a statement. “” Spelling “promises to be quite unique and inspiring.”
